Please note that as of January 1, 2018, the new USA Baseball Bat Standard will be implemented. Little League-approved baseball bats that are approved for use for the 2017 season will no longer be acceptable for use in any Little League game or activity starting on January 1, 2018. For more information on the USABat standard and a complete list of bats approved through the USABat Standard, visit usabat.com.
It's also important to note that this is a mandate passed down by Little League International. This is not something Huguenot Little League has control over or decided to implement ourselves. All Little Leagues are required to adopt this new standard on the time table set forth by Little League International.
Our fall season focuses more on basic instruction than the spring season and offers a great opportunity for players to work on their individual skills - especially players transitioning into a new division in the spring.
Players are encouraged to play in the division during the fall that they'll play in for the upcoming spring season. This gives each player 8 weeks of practice to adjust to their new division before the spring season kicks off. Please click on the link provided (http://hllball.org/Registration/Default.asp), select baseball or softball, to determine your child's league age for 2018. Please let me know if you have any questions concerning which division your child will be in for 2018.
The season will run for 8 weeks. Practices will begin on 9/5/17. The first game will be played on 9/16/17. The last game will be played on 10/28/17. You can expect 1 practice during the week and 1 game every Saturday. Younger divisions will player earlier in the day and older divisions will follow.
Calling all Volunteers! We're actively looking for Managers and Coaches for all age divisions! Be sure to select "volunteer" when registering and let us know if you can help out this season. We can train and provide guidance whenever needed.

2017 Machine Pitch Tournament - Friday Night - Hosted by HLL
I hope everyone is enjoying their summer! At Huguenot Little League, our All Star and Invitational teams have been hard at work in practice and tournaments over the last 6 weeks.
Again for 2017, HLL is hosting the Machine Pitch baseball invitational tournament at our Robious Athletic Complex. We have 15 teams from our district coming to participate. Everything gets started this Friday night at 5:45 pm, with pool play games Friday/Saturday/Sunday/Monday.Tuesday is an off day for weather. We'll kick off single elimination bracket play Wednesday and run that through Friday night to determine our 2017 champion. You can find the full schedule below, which will be updated nightly with results and the next day's match-ups. Use the tabs at the bottom to view the two brackets.
It's an exciting tournament filled with a lot of great baseball. With 15 teams representing all but 1 local Little League within our district, this is the most participated in Little League tournament every year. We'll have the concession stand open and Kona Ice available on Saturday and Sunday. This tournament is a great fundraiser for the league, so please come out and support the league and players who have been working so hard on these hot summer days to prepare.
As always, we're in need of additional volunteers to support the tournament. Before games, we need help dragging and lining fields. During games, we need help filling water coolers and restocking the concession stand. It takes a small army to run the league and these fundraisers. Any help we can get from our members makes the event more profitable for the league, which we pump directly back into our programs and facilities that support our children. If you have any questions on how you can help, please reach out to me. You can sign up to help here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0f48a4ab22a57-hll8year/5026308
The District 5 tournament will begin this weekend, June 24th. Please come out to Central Chesterfield Little League and Tuckahoe Little League to support our All Stars in baseball and softball. You can find detailed information about the tournament, including brackets for each age division, on the Virginia District 5 tournament page.

HLL Home Run Derby
In the Machine Pitch age group we had a three way tie between Evan Mackey, Nolan Anthony and Eli Hulette where Eli Hulette was able to overcome Nolan and Evan to claim the title in a sudden death round. In the Minors there were many great swings but only one that produced the winning HR, and the title in Minor Division (9 and 10 year olds) goes to Christopher Canady. The majors liked the drama from the Machine Pitch so they also to entered into a three way between Preston Drake, Jack Olowiany and Lee Craven. After there evening game the three of them slugged it out and Jack was able to score the only and winning HR. In the Juniors Division Matt Rowsey was able to overcome the others with the lone shot to win the division. The adults were humbled with each at bat but like in all the divisions, Jonahthan Crim's single HR was good enough to claim the title.
Congratulations HR Derby Champions!
I want to thank not just all the people that helped to make the events happen but the spouses and families as well. The volunteers at HLL make things happen but the time they volunteer comes at the cost in many cases of their own family time. To the families of all HLL Volunteers, thank you!

Order forms have been, or will soon be, delivered to the managers.
In anticipation of the weather expected to hit our area, we've decided to cancel the Opening Night events planned for tomorrow night. We'll meet soon to discuss options for hosting a similar event later in the spring.
Given the amount of rain expected in Midlothian tomorrow, this puts Saturday in jeopardy as well. We'll make every effort to play as scheduled, but please stay tuned to the website Saturday morning for updates to the Field Status section. Please also keep in mind that when it rains, we can use all of the help available from our families to prepare the fields for play. We'll have people at Robious as early as 7:30 am, so if you can join us please do!
