6/25 Update
The 10U American All-stars won a hard fought game against a talented Chesterfield Team 10-5. Offensively Tyler lead the way, reaching base all 4 times including a 3 run-home run to put us ahead to stay in the bottom of the 4th. Carter reached based all 4 times from the lead off spot, scoring 3 runs and Michael H added 3 hits and scored twice. Michael G had a 2 out RBI single to right to drive in a big run. Our pitching was great today, only giving up 3 hits. Michael H, Andrew, Tommy, Tyler and Josh were in command throughout finishing the game with only 95 pitches thrown. Defensive was our key with Josh throwing out two runners trying to steal in the first two innings. Tyler made a diving tag at third to end a rally. Noa and Austin each caught deep fly balls to end innings. Next game is Sunday at 330p on the American Field vs. Atlee.
6/26 Update
The 10U American All-stars battled a very good Atlee Team today, but came up on the losing end 6-2. HLL held a 2-0 lead after 3 innings. In the third, Austin lead-off with a sharp single to center and we loaded the bases after walks to Carter and Tyler. Michael H hit a deep sacrifice fly to center scoring Austin. Brennan later walked with the bases loaded to drive in Carter for run number 2. In the 5th, Atlee loaded the bases with a walk, a single and a hit-by-pitch. Then on a 2 strike pitch lined a shot to right scoring 2 runs. The next batter flew out to left scoring their 3rd run of the inning. HLL went 3 up 3 down in the bottom of the 5th. Then in the top of the 6thAtlee loaded the bases after 3 walks and got a key 2 out double to plate 3 more runs. Our HLL bats were quiet tonight, only mustering 3 hits, with 2 coming by Andrew and Kyle in the 6th. Kudos to our 6 pitchers that threw today keeping us in the game and to Michael H who caught all 6 innings. Next game is Monday night at 8p vs. Mechanicsville National.
6/28 Update
Our 10U American All-stars beat Mechanicsville National 11-1 in 4 innings last night. It was a real complete game effort from all of the boys. Our defense and pitching was great again last night. Carter got it started by snagging a shot up the middle and turning a 6-3 double play. In the bottom of the 1st, Tyler doubled, then scored on a single by Michael H. Andrew ripped a shot to left scoring Michael making it 2-0 HLL. Andrew came on in relief in the top of the 2nd with the based loaded, no outs, and 2 balls on the batter. He promptly struck out the two and got a ground out to end the inning. In the 3rd Michael G walked, Carter singled and both scored on a double to deep right center by Tyler. Tyler then stole third and scored when the ball got past the 3rd basemen making it 5-0 HLL. Mechanicsville again loaded the bases with 0 outs in the top of the 3rd but only scored one run as Andrew once again did a good job working his way out of it. In the bottom of the 3rd Andrew singled and scored on a double by Josh. Tommy reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a throwing error by the SS on a hard hit ball from Noa. Carter then hit a rope to right-center driving in Austin who ran for Noa. 8-0 HLL after 3 innings. In 4th Evan came in and shut down MLL on the mound. Michael H, Evan and Andrew all got hits to start the inning and Noa drove home Tommy who had walked with the winning run. We play tonight at 8pm vs. Mechanicsville American.
6/30 Update
A good run in the D5 tournament came to an end Wednesday night for the 10U American Team after a 12-5 loss to Mechanicsville American. The game was a lot closer then the final score would indicate. Tyler started on the mound and got out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the 1st to keep Mechanicsville scoreless. HLL loaded the bases in the bottom of the 1st on 3 straight walks after 2 outs to Michael H, Austin and Andrew, but couldn’t score either. Mechanicsville scored two runs in the 2nd after a walk and an error. HLL went down 3-0 in the 3rd after a 2 out double plated a runner who had walked earlier in the inning. HLL came storming back in the bottom of the 3rd to tie the game. Tyler ripped one to left center, Michael H reached on an error allowing Tyler to score. Austin walked then Andrew grounded out moving the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Josh singled in Michael H and Evan knocked in Austin. Andrew relieved Tyler in late in the 2nd and kept MLL’s bats quiet, both boys pitched great. However, after Andrew hit his pitch limit we walked the bases loaded and with 2 outs MLL ripped a liner to right that Noa made a great diving effort for but MLL scored 4 runs on the play to put HLL down 7-3. HLL loaded the bases in the bottom of the 4th after singles by Tyler, Michael H and a walk to Austin. After a strikeout, Josh hit a deep sacrifice fly to center scoring Tyler. Unfortunately that was our only run of the inning. In the 5th, MLL scored another run to make it 8-4. Always battling, HLL came back with walks to Michael G and Tommy. Evan then roped a shot to center with no outs that the MLL centerfielder scooped up and threw our runner out at 3rd. Tyler then doubled with 2 outs to score Tommy and we went to the 6th down 8-5. The wheels came off the bus a little in the 6th on defense with HLL committing an uncharacteristic 5 errors in the inning allowing MLL to take a commanding 12-5 lead. Offensively Tyler had 3 hits, Michael H reached base 3 out of 4 times, Austin walked all 3 times, Josh had a hit and 2 RBIs in 2 at-bats and Evan had 3 hits. Although the American All-stars didn’t accomplish our goal of winning the tournament we did play some great baseball, win some games, and made some new friends. The HLL community should be proud of how these kids represented our league.
