7/8 Update

The 2011 American League 11U All Stars fell in 6 innings to the well heeled Chesterfield 11U All Stars this evening 8-3. The team was led by starting pitcher Bryce who held the game under control for two innings, being relieved by Lucas who finished the job. The team maintained success on basic plays, but had trouble connecting with balls in the air, with the sun glaring-out the right side of the field, giving up several outs.

Big shots got started in the second inning with Cole pounding a line drive to center field setting the stage for some big action. The AL All Stars continued to man the bases, but resolved only one run until the 5th inning after Parker pulled a single down the 3rd base line, Cole followed with a screamin' double to far right field, and Stuart finished up with a sacrifice hit for the run. As we entered the top of the 5th things got interesting when Brian, facing two strikes, rammed the ball over the left field fence, bringing in Ian and finalizing the score at 3 runs.  Lucas followed Brian using the same bat but found structural problems, while pounding what would have been our second homer, as the bat broke in two leaving a bunt-like fair ball in the confusion and was thrown out at 1st. Our weight training program remains the best in District 5 Little League.

7/9 Update

The 11U Huguenot American All Stars prevailed over Mechanicsville American 7-6. Under the lights with perfect baseball weather, Cole led the way on the mound keeping the game well under control until the 4th inning with the score 3-3. As the Mechanicsville bats revved up, Michael took the helm with double duty as relief and closer. Mechanicsville progress was subdued by an alert outfield and some heads-up baseball within the diamond.

American All Star bats were silent in the first two innings, as our players sized up a formidable Mechanicsville arm. When the research was done, the bats got started and kept on going with Will, Brian and Parker leading the way as the All Stars slowly accumulated runs using the tried-and-true base hit method. Brian almost put one over in the top of the 6th with a left center Sputnik that skinned the inside of the fence on its descent, yielding a double as Huguenot racked up another run.

Entering the bottom of 6th, with the score 7-4, Mechanicsville produced some great shots that set the table for two more runs. Michael, now in the pressure cooker, score 7-6 and two outs, faced the biggest, the strongest, the meanest 11 year old in District 5. Three strikes finished the job!

7/10 Update

Tuckahoe fireballers shut 11U American All Stars down, but Brian matched them pitch for pitch.   A few costly errors led to some unearned runs, but the game was still tight at 4-0 after four.   Our guys wilted in the hot sun in the fifth, under a steady barrage from Tuckahoe's best hitters, but all-in-all it was a great effort against a top team.
