7/13 Update
The Huguenot American 8 year old began there tournament play last night at Rockville. We faced two tough opponents in one game, Glen Allen American and the HEAT! Glen Allen won the game 16-6. We had 1st game jitters and the Heat played a major role on how we played. Our bats did not show up tonight but that can be expected when this is the first tournament experience for most of these kids. Several players hit the ball hard but in many cases Glen Allen made great plays. Ben G led the team in hitting going 3-3 and Brett J went 2-2. Ben P hit the ball hard and Garrett got robbed on one good hit. Michael A made a great catch in RF and Amando made a double play off a pop-up at 2nd base. I think we will learn from this game and hopefully the weather will turn on Thursday. We have one more oven game tonight vs Richmond LL. If you get a chance come out to Rockville and support the Huguenot 8 year olds!
7/14 Update
The only storm hitting Rockville last night was the Huguenot American bats. Huguenot American defeated Richmond LL 12-2. Ben G led the charge with 2 long shots that were probably well over 180 feet. Unfortunately the field did not have a fence and they were ruled ground rule doubles. Jake W had a big 2 RBI hit in the 1st that got things going! The defense is looking better with both Michael A and Jake W making great plays at 1st Base. We got a little sloppy in the 4th inning to let them score a couple runs. We will take the win and keep working! The weather has turned and hopefully we will be ready tonight to play a very tough Tuckahoe Tide team!
7/15 Update
We came up short last night against a very good Tuckahoe “Travel” team. We were up 5-2 going into the bottom of the 5th inning and then the Tuckahoe bats got hot. They scored 7 runs and batted their lineup in the inning. We ended up losing 9-6. I was very proud of how we played last night and how far we have come this week! These kids are playing at a high level. Our defense was spectacular last night with great plays coming from Ben P at 3rd, and Thomas at 2nd base. We hit the ball really hard last night with Ben G hitting one on the hill, another 200 ft shot. Brett, Aiden and Michael A went 3-3 last night to lead the charge. We will learn from this experience and continue to improve. We play Richmond LL tonight at 6:15 to begin the single elimination portion of the tournament. Hopefully we will win tonight and get another shot at Tuckahoe on Saturday!
7/26 Update
The Huguenot American 8 year All-Star team finally played their first game in the Huguenot Invitational on Monday night. We beat a good Atlee American team 16-5. The kids were ready to play tonight and they played GREAT! We played great defense and witnessed maybe the only out of the park HOME RUN by an 8 year old at Huguenot park which was accomplished by Ben G. Ben G also had 2 triples and a single to go 4-4. Ryan also went 4-4. The defense was led by great plays at 2nd base by Thomas and Ben P made some nice plays at 3rd base. Jake W made a nice double play from 1st with a great throw to 3rd base. The whole team hit well and we are excited to finally be playing after the weather delays. We continue our pool play on Tuesday night against Bethleham at 5:30. Come out and support the Huguenot teams this week, it is a great baseball atmosphere!
7/28 Update
Huguenot American took revenge on Mechanicsville American last night for beating our American Brothers in the 8U tournament. The kids hit the ball and then hit the ball to win 24-3 to finish the pool play 3-0. All the kids hit well and they were lead by two in the park Home Runs by T Reilly and Jake. Garrett, Ryan, T Reilly, Ben G, Jake, Michael A, and Ben P all went 3-3! Our team defense was lead by great plays from our shortstop Ryan. We had 2 shut out innings that were key to victory. We leave pool play 3-0 and are ready to face Central Chesterfield American tonight! We need the Huguenot family to come out and support our team! The Central Chesterfield folks have been outnumbering all teams with fan support. Game time 7:45 Robious Softball field.
