7/1 Update

The Huguenot LL Minor Softball All Stars made their 2011 District 5 tournament debut on Thursday, June 30, falling to Tuckahoe 13-2.

The Tuckahoe offense was aggressive early, jumping to a 6-0 lead in the first inning.  As the game progressed, the Huguenot defense got tougher.  Morgan made two terrific plays at shortstop, and Sydney had a sparkling gem at third base, snagging a hard hit shot and throwing to 2B for the force out.  Pitchers Rachel and Lucy did a fine job pounding the strike zone and forcing the Tuckahoe batters to earn their way on base.

On offense the Huguenot bats were quiet early as the Tuckahoe pitcher effectively moved the ball around the strike zone, throwing with some nice zip and hitting her spots.  In the bottom of the fourth the Huguenot girls tried to mount their charge.  Rachel led off with a walk and came around to score on Emma’s hard hit force out, ending Tuckahoe's shutout bid.  Lucy then delivered a sharply hit line drive up the middle and later came around to score on Sydney's base knock.  Julia then hit one hard but was put out on a nice play by the Tuckahoe shortstop to end the Huguenot rally and the ball game.

It was a tough opening game for the Huguenot girls, but improvement was evident as the game progressed.  That improvement combined with their final inning rally should build some confidence for their next game, a Saturday 12:30 start at the Robious AAA field versus Chesterfield LL.  Come out and support Huguenot softball!

7/2 Update

The Huguenot LL Minor Softball All Stars played their second game in the 2011 District 5 tournament Saturday July 2nd defeating Chesterfield LL 17-3.

Chesterfield LL scored a run in the first inning then Lucy and Rachel combined pitched a 1 hit gem, along with the defense allowing Chesterfield LL only 2 more runs the rest of the game. Huguenot came out extremely aggressive on the base path forcing Chesterfield to make plays. At the end of the first it was Huguenot 8 Chesterfield 1 and Huguenot kept the pressure on with their hitting and base running. Defensively they were very solid. Emma and Morgan teamed up to get the lead runner at 2nd in a sparkling play. Lucy with her cat like reflex’s caught a rocket back up the middle that we still are unsure how she caught it. In the last inning Sydney made a great play at 3rd teaming with Kylie to get the leadoff batter out. Offensively the Huguenot bats were knocking the ball everywhere. Emma had a 2 RBI double, Rachel had a 3 RBI triple, Bridget hit one in front of the plate that landed her at 3rd after an overthrow with her great hustle. Add in Lucy’s 2 hits and Kylie’s hit to the mix and the team played a complete game.  Huguenot plays Atlee Sunday July 3rd at 3:30 the winner moves on the loser goes home.  Come out and support the Huguenot Minor’s All-Star softball team!
